Students Promoted in January 2010

Belt Ranks

Third Coast Martial Arts takes the awarding of belts very seriously. We have high expectations of our students and only promote them to higher belt ranks when they deserve it. This instills a sense of accomplishment when belts are earned.

Students are promoted through the ranks at their own pace. There is no fixed time line. Each student advances according to their own ability and motivation. Those aspiring to be promoted to black belt can join the Black Belt Club. Membership permits them to wear special uniforms and participate in a reduced-rate payment plan.

Third Coast Belt Ranking System:
  • 7th Gup - White Belt
  • 6th Gup - Gold Belt
  • 5th Gup - Green Belt
  • 4th Gup - Purple Belt
  • 3rd Gup - Blue Belt
  • 2nd Gup - Red Belt
  • 1st Gup - Brown Belt
  • 1st Dan - Black Belt

Belt Stripes

Starting at white belt level and ending at brown belt level, students earn stripes on their belt for achieving proficiency in various techniques.

Combinations: Red Stripe
Forms: Black Stripe
Count Kicks: White Stripe
Counters: Blue Stripe

Stripe testing occurs during classes and are awarded when each student is ready. There is no fee for stripe testing. Red and brown belts must test for their stripes in Master Seay's class.

Once a student has all four stripes, they will be allowed to test for their next color belt on the next formal test date.
